My research is focused on creative expressions based on molten glass. How to handle molten glass becomes an extremely
important issue to think about. I seek to create sculptural expressions through a number of methods: pouring molten glass
into sand molds; working directly with hot lumps of glass; and glassblowing, in which molten glass at 1,100°C is gathered
on the tip of a stainless steel pipe through which air is blown. I think creating works of glass begins with learning the
characteristics of the material and then takes shape as one learns to use them with one’s own sensibilities. It is important
to know your materials and to approach the challenge of creation with a sensitivity all one’s own. By making artwork in this
way, I seek not only to develop new forms but also to create spaces that make the world richer in a certain way.
