Æsa Björk

Æsa Björk approaches her work by investigating and experimenting with material boundaries while considering questions related to human existence and phenomena connected to the body and personal borders. Her work often combines video projections with glass where glass has been an integral part of creating the video which often involves performative aspects. She likes working with layers both of meaning and material and the work SÝN is a good example of that. SÝN in Icelandic can be understood both as the literal act of seeing as well as that of a more subconscious inner vision which in this case focuses on the act of breathing through a membrane of heavy glass spheres. Æsa’s work has been exhibited internationally and is represented in the National Museum, Oslo, the KODE Art Museums, Bergen both in Norway as well as in the Toyama Glass Art Museum, Japan where she received the Grand Prize for the work Shield II in 2018.
