Jitka Havlíčková

Jitka Havlíčková is a conceptual artist and sculptor.

Jitka’s work reflects both her personal observations and the contemporary anthropological interests and findings. Recent works reacted on the social issue of childlessness, either living in a couple or living single. In 2012 photos of glass figurines getting married preceded. The images accompanied an anthropological “wedding” research. Collaboration was initiated by anthropologist MSc. Kateřina Klapilová, Ph.D., Charles University in Prague.

Likely in a comics, Jitka’s stories are told in sequences. Thus she reveals obvious changes in one’s needs while growing old, e.g. timeless diving into one’s hobby. In the “Break time” story we can watch a skater. She is dreaming. As a little girl, she does not feel like eating, therefore she spends her school break time sliding on her snack. Our heroine appears in a dream jumping and skating barefoot on ice. Eventually, when she becomes elderly and retires, we see her watching TV. There is an old record of her training, a video of a figure skater’s jump. It is a short simple movement study.

Jitka Havlickova has usually focused on long-run projects. She enjoys to interfuse drawing and object. 3D lines “frozen in the space” were in her past concepts made out of hair in bath tubs. Crocheted ropes gave a form to a life size car. Besides figurine making Jitka loves drawing with non erasable markers and modeling clay.

Since 1996 she was invited to take several longer trips to Japan and the USA. Jitka lives in Prague.
